Result area 1(b) is the second component of AgriFI CS APP that supports upscaling of KALRO technologies. The component is being implemented through a Public-Private-Partnership Approach. The following are the achievements:

Subgrantees: A total of 38 sub-grantees from Non-profit organizations (NGOs), CommunityBased Organizations (CBOs) and Faith-based Organizations (FBOs) were engaged.

Counties reached: The sub-grantees have exposed KALRO technologies to their networks spread across 22 counties (Kwale, Kilifi, Marsabit, Isiolo, Tharaka Nithi, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Nyandarua, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, West Pokot, Baringo, Laikipia, Narok, Kajiado, Bomet, Kakamega, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, and Migori).

Farmers reached directly: So far, the project has reached 53,715 farmers (21634 women, 24,872 men, 1,834 Youth, and 38 PWD) directly through trainings and supply of inputs.

Farmers indirectly reached: The project has reached 9,668,502 farmers indirectly through radio. The following FM stations participated in the indirect reach: Sidai FM, Radio Thome FM, Getu FM, Radio Nam Lolwe FM, Kokwo FM, Radio Milambo FM, KBC Radio and Ingo Citizen broadcast.

Trainings conducted: The project trained farmers using various methodologies and approaches. There are 36,953 (23,262 women, 10,400, and 3,291 youths) farmers who have received training from 21 partners on board. The training mostly covered agronomy and agribusiness. More training along the value chains are underway.

Income generated: More than KES.759 Million has been generated as income along the value chains. Table 1 shows the distribution of the income by value chain:

Farmers adopting technologies: A total of 33,545 (20,359 women, 8,769 men, 2,235 Youth) farmers have adopted the new climate-smart technologies across the Counties. They are upscaling technologies along 13 value chains:

1. Beans varieties (Angaza, Nyota, and KAT B1).
2.  Green grams varieties (Ndengu Tosha, Biashara, and Karembo).
3. Grain amaranth varieties (TerereSmart and KATGOLD).
4.  Sorghum variety (KM32).
5. Cowpea varieties (Kunde Tumaini, Kunde Tamu, Faulu, Kunde Soko, and Kat-Kunde).
6. Cashew varieties (A75, A100), vii) Mariculture cage fish farming.
7. High-yielding galla goat breed.
8. Pasture grass ecotypes (Maasai love grass, Boma Rhodes, Fox tail).
9. Integrated Pest Management in Avocado.
10. Camel production.
11. KALRO indigenous chicken.
12. Integrated Pest Management in Mango.

Linkage to input market: A total of 35,002 farmers (19,676 women, 11,565 men, and 3,761 youths) have been linked to input suppliers and accessed seed, chicks, and production inputs.

Jobs created: To date, 46,797 jobs have been created where 90% is in farm labor (plowing, planting, harvesting, post-harvest activities, herding, and poultry management).

Linkages to financial service providers: So far, the project partners have linked 27,638 farmers (15,540 women, 9,319 men, and 2,799 youth) to financial service providers.

Loans accessed: Farmers have accessed loans worth KES 12,471,305 through formal (banks and SACCOs) and informal financial service providers (village savings and loans, merry-go-rounds).

Farmers who graduated: A total of 14,179 farmers (7,910 Women, 4,649 Men, Youth 1,617) have graduated from subsistence to commercial farming. Table 2 shows the graduation by value chain.
