About Community Initiative Facilitation and Assistance (CIFA) is a national NGO operating in Kenya with a sister organization legally registered to operate in Ethiopia.

Founded in 1999, and registered with Kenya NGO Coordination Board since May 2000, CIFA formally secured regional status by registering as an NGO in Ethiopia in September 2005, in its efforts to support the pastoralist communities in Northern Kenya and Southern Ethiopia.

CIFA (Kenya and Ethiopia) has been implementing development and humanitarian interventions in Marsabit and Borana region, and has substantial community engagement experience, implementing quality programs supported by different international donors. CIFA has established offices in; Marsabit, Dukana, Moyale, and in Nairobi.

Projects Implemetation Overview:

CIFA received KES 6,813,000 in February 2022 to implement a 2-year project titled "Improve productivity of local Camel breeds and enhanced commercial orientation of the product in local and export market".

The key focus of the project is increased adoption of technologies that enables the farmers to upgrade the local camel breeds as well as supporting the pastoral communities to adopt camel management practices that enhances camel milk productivity.

The project is supporting the pastoral communities with Somali breeds (bulls) to upgrade the local breeds and training them on camel management practices. The project is implemented in Marsabit and Moyale Counties and targets to reach 1,200 beneficiaries directly and 34,000 indirectly. The project ends on 8th February 2024.
