KALRO Improved Indigenous Chicken (KIIC) Value Chain Project

Upscalling & Implemetation Details:

Anglican Development Services Eastern received KES 6,813,000 in February 2022 to implement a project titled; “Upscaling KALRO improved indigenous chicken technologies for increased incomes, nutrition and food security among small holder farmers in Machakos and Kitui Counties”. The project is upscaling KIIC technologies in Mwala and Kibauni sub-counties in Machakos and Kitui South, East, and Rural in Kitui County.

The project is working with farmer groups who are linked to brooders who rear one day old chicks to 2-4 weeks before they are distributed to farmers. The system is reducing the mortality rate for chicks.

The farmers are also training on poultry management practices and formulation of feeds. In the project, ADSE is targeting to reach 2,000 farmers directly and 50,000 indirectly.
