Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute (KEVEVAPI)



The Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute (KEVEVAPI) was established as a parastatal institution under, Cap 446 of the laws of Kenya on 5th May 1990 through legal Notice No. 223 of 4th June 1990. This followed the dissolution of a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Kenya and the Welcome Trust Foundation of the United Kingdom. Three institutions that were producing vaccines in Kenya were merged to form the institute. 

Action. Manufacture of thermostable PPR vaccine batch for field evaluation. 




How KEVEVAPI works:

  1. Coordinate and take charge of all veterinary vaccine production in the country.
  2. Research, either alone or in collaboration with other research institutions, into innovations of veterinary vaccine production.
  3. Develop and produce chemicals, media, and laboratory products for use in the production of vaccines and other veterinary products.
  4. Market and distribute veterinary vaccines locally and abroad.
  5. Provide information in the field on matters of vaccines.


KEVEVAPI signed a grant contract with KALRO as a Co-applicant to implement the project entitled “Manufacture of thermostable PPR vaccine batch for field evaluationunder the AgriFi Kenya CS APP Result area 1. (a): New drought-resistant and more yielding climate-smart technologies developed. The focus is to address specific productivity constraints, facing farmers and whose solution will unlock farmer integration in commodity markets

To achieve the overall goal, the following specific objectives aim to be achieved:

1.     To produce a  commercial test batch of a thermos-tolerant PPR vaccine for evaluation.
