Dorcas Aid International - Kenya (Dorcas) is part of Dorcas Aid International, a Christian Relief and Development Organization working in three regions: Africa, Middle East and Eastern Europe in 15 countries. Dorcas fights poverty, exclusion and crisis by empowering marginalized people and communities to flourish.
Dorcas in Kenya is registered with NGO Bureau and has implemented programmes in different counties since 1993. Its programmes focus on inclusive entrepreneurship (value chains) aimed at diversification of incomes and creation of employment, especially for women and youth; Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH); climate change (agriculture, environment and energy transition) and social protection of vulnerable children and marginalized people. In the programmes, Dorcas aims to increase access to clean water and improved sanitation, diversify incomes, create jobs, build communities’ resilience to climate change, respond to humanitarian needs, increase access to basic services and improve the inclusion of marginalized groups.
Dorcas Kenya co-implements the programmes with local partners (mostly grassroots organisations) to enhance ownership and sustainability, builds strategic partnerships with multi-stakeholder actors that include the private sector, the public and knowledge centres. These partnerships increase scale and leverage on synergies and resources.
Projects Implemetation Overview:
Dorcas Aid International is upscaling two value chains, KIIC and Pasture Grass. The projects are implemented in partnership with two community-based organizations namely; North Gem Community Development Program in Siaya County and Kitise in Makueni, which are implementing KIIC and Pasture grass value chains, respectively.
KIIC Value Chain Project
Dorcas Aid International received KES 6,813,000 in March 2022 from to implement a 2-year project titled "Upscaling Kalro Improved Indigenous Chicken in Kisumu and Siaya Counties".
Pasture Grass Value Chain Project
Dorcas Aid International received KES 6,813,000 in March 2022 to implement a 2-year project titled "Enhancing drought resilience and sustainable livelihoods through upscaling of climate resilient and agricultural Technologies for improved productivity and incomes".
