Upscalling & Implemetation Details:
Support for Tropical Initiatives in
Poverty Alleviation (STIPA) received KES 6,813,000 in February 2022 to
implement a sorghum project titled; entitled “Disseminating a new white
sorghum variety (KM 32 -1) for food and with high malting quality in Kisumu,
Homa Bay, and Siaya Counties”.
The project is upscaling the KM-32 variety which is suitable for brewing.
The overall objective of the project is to increase the adoption and production
of sorghum in order to improve food security, nutrition, and income. The
project is working with groups of farmers to attain mass production of sorghum.
STIPA is working with East Africa Malting Limited as the off-taker of the
produce and Magos Agrovet as the supplier of farm inputs to the farmers. The
project targets to benefit 2,500 farmers. The project ends in February 2024.
